But Did You Die

An Original Song By The Vacation Pirates

The jib-boom swung and crashed into his face,
Knocked out his teeth and spun him in place.
He spat out a molar and wiped off the gore,
Then climbed back up, laughing, to go get some more.

You’ve been cut
You’ve been crushed
You’ve been thrown to the tide,

You’ve been burned
You’ve been broken
and split open wide.

You’re coughing up teeth,
yet you’re asking for rum,
You should really be floating…
but here you still come.

BUT DID YOU DIE?

I signed up for gold, not losing an eye,
I sailed for adventure, not steel in my side.
If this is the job, then I’m done with this ride,
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?

The powder-boy slipped with a spark in his hand,
Lit up the deck and half of the band.
He blew through the hatch in a blackened parade,
Then staggered back up, like it’s just how he’s made.

You’ve been blown off the deck
and slammed to the side,
You’ve been stabbed,
you've been cracked,
and you've been peeled open wide.

You’re missing a boot
and you've swallowed some sea,
You should really be sinking…
but here you still be.

BUT DID YOU DIE?

I signed up to plunder, pillage, and loot,
Not crawling back bloody and covered in soot.
If this is the job, then I’m saying goodbye...
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?

The anchor-chain snapped, and dragged him below,
Through jagged coral and God only knows.
He emerged from the water, half-blue in the face,
still swearing and swinging and keepin the pace.

You’ve been dragged through the reef
and you're torn to the bone.
You’ve been burned,
you've been drowned,
You've been left all alone.

You’re stitched up with rope
and you're begging for ale.
You should be dead…
but you’re telling the tale.

BUT DID YOU DIE?

I signed on for rum and a life on the waves.
I signed on for work, not a march to the grave.
If this is the job I’ve been sold a damn lie…
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?

Then this swabbie stood up and bumped into his knee.
Let out a small whimper and fell into the sea.
No cannon, no cutlass, no blood to be shed.
Just a stupid mistake, and the bastard was dead.

He’s got all his limbs and he's got both his eyes.
He didn’t get burned, and he didn't didn’t capsize,
he didn’t get cut, and he didn't get torn.
He just got a wee bruise... and then he was done.

BUT DID HE DIE?

Uh, actually Captain… yeah, he died.

I Signed on for treasure, not dragging these chains.
I Thought I’d be drinking, not drowning in pain.
If this is the life, then it ain’t worth the time
I should’ve stayed dockside... and sucked on a lime.

I signed on for gold, not losing an eye.
I sailed for adventure, not steel in my side.
If this is the job, then I’m done with this ride…
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?

Hear ye, hear ye…

The deeply unsafe and legally questionable crew of Vacation Pirates be proud to unleash their latest anthem of catastrophic decision-makin’… “BUT… DID YOU DIE?” now staggerin’ onto all major streamin’ platforms under what doctors would describe as “extremely concerning circumstances.”

This be the inspirational tale of sailors sufferin’ injuries so severe they’d normally end a career… or several internal organs… only to be met with the least compassionate leadership in maritime history.

Lost a tooth?

Wonderful. Ye had extras.

Caught an explosion directly to the face?

Aye, but ye landed safely.

Dragged through a coral reef by a snapped anchor chain while briefly turnin’ the color of expired cheese?

Sounds survivable to us.

Every verse tells the story of another sailor bein’ crushed, burned, stabbed, exploded, drowned, broken, flattened, or spiritually inconvenienced… followed immediately by the captain askin’ the only question he’s ever cared about:

“…BUT DID YOU DIE?”

Born from the loud, reckless heart of cruise culture, this track proudly celebrates the pirate tradition of ignoring basic safety standards, suppressing emotional vulnerability, and applying rum directly to injuries that absolutely require medical attention.

There be:

- exploding powder boys
- sailors coughin’ up molars
- men stitched together with rope
- enough head trauma to erase several childhood memories

And one spectacular idiot who survives ALL the dangerous parts of pirate life… only to die from lightly bumping his knee and falling overboard like a complete embarrassment to the profession.

Frankly, morale has never been lower.

With stompin’ drums, shouted gang vocals, and enough bodily injury to bankrupt a modern insurance company, “BUT… DID YOU DIE?” may be the most aggressively stupid thing Vacation Pirates have ever created.

And that competition be fierce.

So if ye’ve ever been in terrible pain while someone significantly less injured mocked ye for complainin’…

Aye.

Welcome aboard.

“BUT… DID YOU DIE?” be now streamin’ wherever music be found.

Go on then… press play. And try not to explode. 🏴‍☠️
