But Did You Die
An Original Song By The Vacation Pirates
The jib-boom swung and crashed into his face,
Knocked out his teeth and spun him in place.
He spat out a molar and wiped off the gore,
Then climbed back up, laughing, to go get some more.
You’ve been cut
You’ve been crushed
You’ve been thrown to the tide,
You’ve been burned
You’ve been broken
and split open wide.
You’re coughing up teeth,
yet you’re asking for rum,
You should really be floating…
but here you still come.
BUT DID YOU DIE?
I signed up for gold, not losing an eye,
I sailed for adventure, not steel in my side.
If this is the job, then I’m done with this ride,
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?
The powder-boy slipped with a spark in his hand,
Lit up the deck and half of the band.
He blew through the hatch in a blackened parade,
Then staggered back up, like it’s just how he’s made.
You’ve been blown off the deck
and slammed to the side,
You’ve been stabbed,
you've been cracked,
and you've been peeled open wide.
You’re missing a boot
and you've swallowed some sea,
You should really be sinking…
but here you still be.
BUT DID YOU DIE?
I signed up to plunder, pillage, and loot,
Not crawling back bloody and covered in soot.
If this is the job, then I’m saying goodbye...
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?
The anchor-chain snapped, and dragged him below,
Through jagged coral and God only knows.
He emerged from the water, half-blue in the face,
still swearing and swinging and keepin the pace.
You’ve been dragged through the reef
and you're torn to the bone.
You’ve been burned,
you've been drowned,
You've been left all alone.
You’re stitched up with rope
and you're begging for ale.
You should be dead…
but you’re telling the tale.
BUT DID YOU DIE?
I signed on for rum and a life on the waves.
I signed on for work, not a march to the grave.
If this is the job I’ve been sold a damn lie…
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?
Then this swabbie stood up and bumped into his knee.
Let out a small whimper and fell into the sea.
No cannon, no cutlass, no blood to be shed.
Just a stupid mistake, and the bastard was dead.
He’s got all his limbs and he's got both his eyes.
He didn’t get burned, and he didn't didn’t capsize,
he didn’t get cut, and he didn't get torn.
He just got a wee bruise... and then he was done.
BUT DID HE DIE?
Uh, actually Captain… yeah, he died.
I Signed on for treasure, not dragging these chains.
I Thought I’d be drinking, not drowning in pain.
If this is the life, then it ain’t worth the time
I should’ve stayed dockside... and sucked on a lime.
I signed on for gold, not losing an eye.
I sailed for adventure, not steel in my side.
If this is the job, then I’m done with this ride…
All the captain asks is… BUT DID YOU DIE?
BUT DID YOU DIE?
